Melissa Marx receives Heartland Community College Distinguished Alumni Award

The Heartland Community College Alumni Association has honored Melissa Marx as recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Alumni award. 

The award recognizes notable Heartland alumni who demonstrate exceptional achievement in their profession and make a positive impact on their community. Awardees are selected from nominations submitted by fellow Heartland alumni, faculty, staff, students and community members. 

Melissa Marx is Senior Director of Operations for Outpatient Imaging Affiliates. She was previously employed by Ft. Jesse Imaging Center, where she improved overall patient satisfaction, workflow design and processes, in addition to increasing the visibility of the facility in the community. Prior to that, Marx spent 12 years at the Community Cancer Center. A passionate Carle for screening exams for women, Marx started the “Breast in Show” fundraiser held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. All funds raised through this unique event provide women at our local charitable and free health clinic with free lifesaving mammograms. 

“I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition with so many other distinguished alums who have graduated from Heartland Community College,” said Marx. “My time at Heartland helped me embrace lifelong learning.” 

Marx’s academic career started at Heartland Community College, where she graduated with an Associate in Arts degree in 2006. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration from Lincoln College and is currently pursuing a master’s degree is Health Administration from Purdue University. Additionally, she has earned her Radiology Administrator certification through American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA), the association for medical imaging management. 

An active leader in the community, Marx serves on the boards for Professional Women of McLean County, McLean County Chamber of Commerce, Heartland Community College Foundation, and Heartland Community College Radiography. She previously served on the boards of the Pink Panthers of Community Cancer Center as well as the Bloomington/Normal Jaycees. She was the driving force in supplying the local zoo with a donated ultrasound device after it was retired from Ft. Jesse Imaging Center. 

Other nominees for the award were Todd Crowley, Burgandy Henderson, Suzanne Montoya, and Sheri Piper. 

Melissa Marx will be recognized during the College’s commencement ceremony on May 13, 2022 at Grossinger Motors Arena.
